Issue 04 | Transitions

Life rarely unfolds in straight lines. Instead, it reveals itself in layers, in moments of transition, transformation, and passage. In this issue, we dedicate ourselves to a phenomenon that is as everyday as it is foundational: Transitions.

Transitions run like a common thread through our entire lives. We find them in personal stories tied to places of passage, where something old has ended and something new has yet to fully begin. They appear in the subtle interplay between body and object, along the boundary separating the outside world from the sanctuary of the home, and within the memories a house carries through its various phases.

In architecture and design, transitions form the very backbone of a spatial vision. They establish connections, frame spaces, and shape how we experience our environment. Yet they present a fundamental choice: Should we make these seams and thresholds visible—highlighting and celebrating them as distinct moments? Or should we aim for seamless harmony, allowing one state to subtly bleed into the next?

This question extends far beyond design. It applies to almost every phase of our lives. How much room do we give to the moments of being in-between?

We invite you to explore this issue and trace the lines between spaces, moments, and identities.
