The Passage Between Line, Mass, Viod and Fragment
Words & Visuals: Gastón Badii
A form begins as a line held in space. The wire outlines a volume that remains open, a structure able to anticipate a body. Plaster gathers that drawing and turns it into mass, surface and weight. For an instant, the form seems to settle. That body, however, continues its course. Once contained by the mould, the matter that sustained it withdraws and leaves a cavity in its place. The form persists as a trace, lodged in a negative surface that keeps the memory of what once stood there.
Later the stone too loses its unity. Crushed, it returns to a scattered state: fragments of different sizes, matter without figure, gathered together before finding a new limit. As they fill the void of the mould, those fragments reunite and the form reappears within another body.
The series follows this transmission between line, mass, void and fragment. Each material receives a form that lasts only for a time and then hands it on to the next. Between one state and another something is lost, something is kept and something changes.
The final piece concentrates that journey. Its surface holds a succession of earlier bodies now absent: the wire that anticipated it, the plaster that gave it volume, the mould that held its cavity, and the stone that, after scattering, came together again. The form moves through the process as a material memory.
Lost Body: The plaster breaks as it leaves the mold. What had been a continuous figure becomes dust and fragments, no longer recognizable in parts. The form has already moved on.

Dispersed Matter - The stone ceased to be a block some time ago. It remains as fragments: different sizes, edges and densities, motionless for a moment before being brought together again.
